I was talking with a friend of mine via email about some of the B&W shots I did in Japan.

He told me that he knew of a better way to convert to black and white than the simple Photoshop “Convert to Grayscale”. I did a search and found an excellent tutorial on Design By Fire. The results are shockingly better.

Here is the original grayscale converted image from a recent trip to Julian:

Here is the same image converted using the above method:

The difference is even more evident in an uncompressed JPG or PSD file - the blacks and whites are true - not faded, flat imitations. I need to redo my B&W albums.
