What the hail?
Rough night last night.
We’ve been staying at a great place in Christchurch for the last week (complete with free movies every night, and good ones too) but they didn’t have any cabins left, so we slept in our tent the whole time. We had an early flight up to Auckland this morning, so we went to bed at 8:30.
A few hours later we heard thunder approaching rapidly and I had a feeling that we had better jump in the car. It started pouring just as we jumped into the car and the minute we closed the door, the Perfect Storm came, complete with murderous lightning, insanely loud thunderclaps and hailstones the size of large pebbles. It was only 11:30 at night. We spent the next 3 hours cramped and freezing in the car (I learned that tents are warmer than cars) and then when the storm let up we crawled back in to the tent and slept for four more hours. We woke up exactly sixteen seconds before sunrise.
Tomorrow: Thailand. Yesssss.

Glad you’re alive.
Sounds like a camping experience I had where we set up tent in an old dry riverbed. No rain in the forecast. Hadn’t been a river there in years and years.
You can imagine what happened.
Massive amounts of rain. Water coming up through bottom of “rainproof” tent as the ol’ dry riverbed became a new, wet river. High winds blowing rain in through every seam. And to top it off it was about two hours before daylight and the car was a good 100 yards in an unspecified direction.
Camping certainly can suck.

Whoa! I just read the other comments. Is “Sue” the sister of Ray?
If so, this Erik is the bigger, hairier brother of Erin Peterson. Howyadoin?
If not, forget I said anything and attempt to remove the adjectives “bigger” and “hairier” from your mind.
Thanks.

Glad you guys are okay. Will you do me a favor when you get a chance? Please take me off your blogroll. Believe me, it’s nothing to do with you at all, but I have my reasons. Thank you for putting me there in the first place! Stay well. Hope you get to see Adam, Cindy, and Sean! I think you’ll really like Chiang Mai.
