Elephants Dream
About a week ago, a short film called Elephants Dream was released online. It is an animated film designed to not only entertain but to prove that highly technical, visually engrossing animation can be produced using open source technologies.
The film was produced using Blender, an open source software package for “3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback,” according to the website.
I’m still in the process of downloading the film (their servers are getting hammered) but the one minute or so that I’ve seen has been breathtaking, especially when one considers that the tools to create it are freely available.
Look out, Hollywood.
