Finally

Some good news from the US Supreme Court.

We’re already very close to losing the battle against barbarity and ignorance in our “war on terror” (an Orwellian phrase if there other was one) by sacrificing the valuable assets that America proclaims to hold.

I liked the Navy lawyer who was interviewed here on BBC TV.His client Hamdan said on his first meeting “They can do what they want, there is no law here”…well thought the Navy lawyer, there is no such place where there is no law (bad place for lawyers I guess).

“Today the Supreme Court brought the law to Guantanamo Bay”

It takes some pluck (and luck) to stand up and say and do what he did.

all this decision means is that the administration has to get congressional approval if they want to try these guys outside of the normal channels. there’s no way a bill allowing rumsfeld, et. al. to institute an alternative process will pass congress, but it might get close. and if it gets close then there’s no telling how long it will be until something is actually done with these prisoners. in effect, they may be able to hold them until the next administration–who will then have to deal with them.

yet there is a ray of hope somewhere in there.
